Important Facts About Digital Telephone Service

What It Is
Digital phone service (also known as VoIP for Voice over the Internet Protocol), refers to communication services that are transported via the Internet rather than the old public switched telephone network.  
How To Make Calls
An Analog Adapter is required to connect your existing telephone to the Internet.  This will allow you to make calls as you normally would.
Internet Required
A high-speed Internet connection is required.  However, even the slowest speeds offered by cable and DSL providers are generally acceptable. IMPORTANT NOTE: You can combine our service with AT&T DSL.  You are not required to purchase AT&T telephone service with AT&T DSL.
Call Quality and Reliability
Years ago, digital phone service suffered from poor quality and unreliability.  With improvements in technology, digital telephone calls are now generally of equal or better quality than traditional phone service.
Features
Digital telephone service includes the same features typically offered by traditional phone companies, such as caller ID and voice mail, but also include many additional features, such as Find Me and Simultaneous Ring.
Installation
Digital phone service requires installation of an adapter.  While many homeowners are able to handle the basic installation themselves, they may have to give up the use of existing telephone jacks in their home unless they hire a professional installer.
Portability
Not only can you keep your old number, but you can take it with you no matter where you move.  Simply connect your telephone adapter into any Internet modem.
Out-of-Area Number
Upon request, you can obtain a number that is outside your area. For example, you can have a New York number in Los Angeles. This will allow callers to contact you with a local call, even if you are tens or thousands of miles away.
911 Emergency Service
911 is available, but is a little different due to the portable nature of digital phone service.  Subscribers are required to keep their carrier informed of their physical location so they can be found in the event of an emergency.
Security Systems
If you have a security system, it may not work properly with digital telephone service.  You may want to consider changing your security system to a type that relies on cell towers rather than traditional phone lines.
Battery Backup
To avoid the loss of telephone service In the event of a power failure, we recommend an uninterruptible power supply for your modem and telephone adapter.
